My Favorite Place Project
Pre-Tech VersionStudents write about their favorite place in the world. They draw a picture and display them in the classroom.
Redefinition VersionStudents use Google Maps to create a collaborative map of the favorite locations of everyone in the class. They create pinpoints of their location, and accompanying text that can be opened to display their writing. Students read and comment on each other's favorite places.
|
Substitution/Automated VersionStudents type their explanations of their favorite places and print out their narrative. They find and print out pictures of the location and display them in the classroom
Transformational 6Critical Thinking: Students read each other's locations and choose three other locations they want to visit. On their blog, they defend the reasons that those are the best places to visit.
Audience: The class map is displayed on the teacher's website. Parents or community members can view the map - or even add their own locations with a different color/shape pin, or locations where they live. Purpose: Students use their knowledge of Google Maps to help the Make a Wish Foundation create a map of the places children have visited with their Wish, to use to publicize the Foundation and enable more kids' wishes to come true |

PowerPoint Notes/Lecture Project
Pre-Tech VersionTeacher creates a PowerPoint Presentation (or overhead, or writes notes on the board). Students listen to the presentation, and take notes from it.
Redefinition VersionTeacher creates the presentation on VoiceThread and assigns it to students out of class, as homework. Students see the slides, and hear the audio recording of the teacher's voice as they deliver the "lecture". They leave comments on the slides, asking questions, making comments or leaving links to information that relates to what is in the slide. Students are able to see/read/hear each other's comments.

Substitution/Automate VersionTeacher creates a PowerPoint Presentation. Students take notes on their laptops. The teacher shares the presentation through Google Slides, Slideshare or Google Classroom so students have access.
Transformational 6 VersionThe teacher puts students into groups. Via Google Classroom, she provides students with several (4-6) powerpoints/presentations on the topic created by other teachers from around the world (best in world examples). Working in groups, students read all of the powerpoints, and then pull ten slides from all the powerpoints to create a "remix," that contains slides from all presentations and is the "best" and most informative presentation (critical thinking/inquiry). Each group posts their remix on the class webpage/blog/Google Classroom, with a written defense of why they chose the slides they did (critical thinking). Students respond to each other's posts, either with prompts from the teacher or their own observations, agreeing or disagreeing with the other groups' choices (thinking is visible). Students can vote on the "best" remix, or create the "ultimate mix" from each group's version, and leave that on the teacher's webpage as a reference for other/future classes (purpose).
