Classroom Management in the 1:1
Getting PositionedMWA: Management by Walking Around is a Leadership style that gets a lot of press in the books (and a lot of mockery in the Dilbert comics). But, moving around, checking in, watching over students' shoulders, checking the tabs on their browsers is the best way of ensuring that you know what's happening on those screens. Get used to teaching from behind students instead of in front of the room.
Room Set-Up: Desks near power outlets become premium real estate in a 1:1 classroom.

Dealing with Techno Fatigue
The Internet is Out!When using Google Apps, losing the internet does NOT mean losing your whole day's plan.
In Google Drive (using Google Chrome as a browser), click on the settings icon (it looks like a round gear) in the upper right. Check the box that says "Synch Google Docs, Sheets, Slides & Drawings...". Have students do this as well. Any of those Google programs - including shared documents - will now open and work on your computer. Changes will synch when the internet comes back. |
Nothing is Working!Problems with technology can make even the most veteran teachers frustrated. Part of dealing with that frustration is planning for those problems, and trying to determine solutions before they occur.
Click here to access the sheet pictured above, and begin that problem-solving process. |
